Ishigaki Yaimamura
Ishigaki Yaimamura is a theme park at Japan's southernmost tip that features a backdrop of rich nature and rows of reproductions of traditional Yaeyama houses. Located on a hill that overlooks the famous Nagurawan Bay, the sounds of sanshin instruments can be heard from the akagawara folk houses, which have been registered as a national tangible cultural property. Within the grounds there is a forest of squirrel monkeys where Bolivian squirrel monkeys, which are originally from Central and South America, are bred in an environment close to their natural habitat. Squirrel monkeys are friendly, so feeding them is quite popular. There is also an observation course to Nagura Anparu, which has been registered at the Ramsar Convention, on which visitors can see rare plants and animals. There are also several workshops where participants can can try Ryukyuan clothing and shisa painting.
