Ikeda Wine Castle
Ikeda Wine Castle is a spot where visitors can enjoy Tokachi wine, the pride of the local region. The official name of the establishment is Ikeda-cho Grapes and Grape Wine Research Institute, but it is said to look like a European castle from the Middle Ages, so when someone started calling it Ikeda Wine Castle, the name stuck. Within this wine castle is an observation course that starts right in front on the first floor, and visitors can roam freely from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In the eastern side of the castle, there is a wine factory where the wine bottling process can be seen. The wine castle has a variety of things to enjoy, including the underground fermentation room where the wine sleeps quietly in old vintage or French oak barrels, the shopping area on the first floor where Tokachi wine and other Ikeda-cho special products are sold, and a restaurant on the fourth floor.
*From October 7, 2019 through late April 2020, the facility is closed for renovations.
