Asahikawa Science Center SCI-PAL
The Asahikawa Science Center SCI-PAL is a museum that focuses on discovering science through curiosity. The permanent exhibition room is broken up into three corners: Northern Country, Earth, and Space.
The Northern Country section depicts the strange and interesting natural phenomena that are representative of Hokkaido and Asahikawa, such as climate, snow, ice, and animals.
In the Earth corner there are a variety of hands-on exhibits, such as an earthquake experience and the Jumbo Soap exhibit, at which participants can get inside a giant soap bubble and observe the surface tension of liquid and light interference of the soap film. Through the exhibits, visitors can learn about a variety of natural phenomena throughout the world as well as unique and interesting facts about the human body.
The Space corner has exhibits on the rotations of planets as well as machinery that imitates astronaut training equipment so visitors can experience mock zero gravity, and the Moon Jump offers participants a chance to have a mock experience of the difference between the gravity on Earth and on the moon. In this section, visitors can deepen their knowledge of space and feel its enormity all the while having fun.
Additionally, facilities such as a planetarium that uses the newest projectors and a large astronomical observatory that can be used even during the day allow kids and adults alike to enjoy an experience packed with excitement.
