Shiranoe Botanical Garden
The Shiranoe Botanical Garden is located on a hill overlooking the sea in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka. The cherry blossoms in the garden are known as kanzakura, or winter cherry blossoms, and they start blooming as early as February. The park is known for its great number and variety of cherry trees, coming in at a total of around 800 trees in 60 varieties. There are even some species that bloom in autumn, sometimes as early as October. Although the main peak for the blossoms is in spring, usually in April, visitors to this park can enjoy cherry blossoms for half of the year!
In addition to cherry blossoms, visitors to the park can also enjoy many other types of plants and flowers, including azaleas, peonies, a wetland and aquatic garden plants, and more. The park is also home to the Shiranoe Japanese cherry tree, which is a natural monument of the prefecture.
