Megijima Island
Megijima Island is a small island floating in the Seto Inland Sea about 20 minutes by ferry from Takamatsuko Port. There is a legend that a demon used to live in Washigamine's giant cave, leading the island to be called by another name, Onikajima, which translates to Demon Island. Onipi, the original souvenir of the Onikajima Cavern, is a popular product that can only be purchased here. There are many places to visit on the island, such as the beautiful, bow-shaped Koibito Cape as well as Ote, a stone wall that protects the village from strong winds in winter. The Washigamine Observation Deck at the summit is a particularly beautiful scenery spot where visitors can look out at a 360-degree view of the Seto Inland Sea. In spring, visitors can also enjoy gazing out at the elegant view of cherry blossoms. A project called Art Setouchi has also been established on the island in an effort to revitalize the Seto Inland Sea through art activities. Artworks such as the Seagull Parking Lot and Reflection on the 20th Century are set up on the island, leading it to be known alongside Ogijima Island as a spot to take photos for Instagram.
