Kawachi Wisteria Garden
The Kawachi Wisteria Garden in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture was selected as one of “The 31 Most Beautiful Places in Japan” by the U.S. news broadcaster CNN. It is the perfect spot to enjoy the beautiful shades of wisteria’s purple flowers. In Japanese, wisteria is called fuji, and the garden is also known as Kawachi Fuji Garden (no relation to the mountain). The garden hosts an annual Wisteria Festival from mid-April to mid-May, which is when the blooming is at its peak. Their giant 8 acre (3,305 ㎡)wisteria trellis and 360 ft. long (110 m) wisteria tunnel is truly stunning. During the festival season, there are shuttle buses from Yahata station. In autumn, from mid-November to early December, the park is also a great place to see the beautiful autumnal leaves.
