Chokai Blue Line

The Chokai Blue Line is a road that traverses through the mountains for a limited time in the year in Akita and Yamagata Prefectures. The road begins at sea level and peaks at around 1100 meters above sea level. The time that this beautiful road can be traveled is from the end of April to the end of October. However, quite often snow still remains when the road is opened, oftentimes reaching the height of 10 meters. The sunsets while looking down over the Sea of Japan from the Blue Line are romantic. We recommend that you plan your drive between summer and august to coincide with the sunsets.
