Chido Museum
Formerly the property of a Shonai domain lord, the Chido Museum in Tsuruoka is a private museum made up of historical buildings. The two-story building houses local materials from Shonai, classical calligraphy, ceremonial sake barrels, and woodwork. In addition, the museum includes the relocated Nishitagawa District office from the early Meiji period (1868-1912) and other structures that are important national treasures of Japan. Visitors can also gaze upon the beautiful Japanese garden while enjoying tea. If you are interested in local Japanese history and historical architecture, this is a great destination to stop by on your trip through Yamagata Prefecture.
