Not many castles from the Edo period (1600-1867) have endured the wars of the past two centuries in good shape, so Uwajimajo Castle in Ehime Prefecture is one of the exceptions. The small castle remains intact in its original form from the 17th century. It was owned by the Date clan that ruled the area around Uwajima.
