Shimonoseki Kaikyokan
Shimonoseki Kaiyokan is an aquarium that reproduces the sea life of the Kanmon Straits. At the museum is a tank of the Kanmon Straits showing the changes between high and low tide and allowing visitors to observe the movement of fish under each tide condition. The Kanmon Straits themselves are located directly behind the building, so depending on the angle, some crossing boats might be visible from the aquarium. The display of Shimonoseki's specialty, the pufferfish, has over 100 different species and is not one to pass up. The museum also hosts plenty of exciting events, including regular events, hands-on experiences on how to make soy sauce from fish, and fish-catching practice.
