Senshu Koen Park
Senshu Koen Park in Akita City is a park constructed on the site of Kubota-jo Castle, which was once the castle of the feudal lords of Akita, the Satake clan. It was developed into a park during the Meiji period by a landscape architect who is said to have been a pioneer of modern park design. The elegance of Japanese teien gardens and the scenery of each season can be enjoyed here, with cherry blossoms in spring, lotus flowers blooming in summer, changing colors in autumn, and snow in winter. Visitors taking a walk around the vast premises will be able to see a moat that retains remnants of the Edo period, a tea shop called Senan, the Satake Historical Museum, and Ninomaru, which is said to have put on Noh dances for the feudal lords of Akita. Without a doubt, anyone visiting will be able to feel the development of the castle town and the history of the Satake clan, who were feudal lords of Akita for 12 generations and 267 years.
