Philosopher’s Path
The philosopher's path is a scenic walk in Kyoto that was named after Nishida Kitaro (1870-1945), a Kyoto university professor and key figure in the Kyoto School of Philosophy, a philosophical movement. Nishida is said to have walked this path frequently to reflect on philosophical issues. The path leads up to the Ginkakuji temple and then to the south in the direction of Eikando Temple and Nanzenji Temple. The path follows along a canal with many trees. In spring, it is a great spot for taking photos of cherry blossoms, and on nights in summer you may be lucky enough to see the glow of fireflies.

After visiting Eikando Temple, I walked through Philosopher’s Path and then had my lunch in a udon restaurant near Ginkakuji temple. Walking from south to north takes about 45mins. I think it is a good choice to have a short hiking in spring and autumn. There are lots of exquisite grocery stores and cafés by the path. So it is also a good place to enjoy a relax afternoon having nice coffee and sweets.
