Myotsuji Temple is a Buddhist temple in the woods of Obama city, Fukui Prefecture. It is said to have been founded in 806 by a Japanese nobleman and military commander who was traveling through the Hokuriku region. The temple's wooden buildings, some of which were built in the 13th century, are covered with beautiful moss. The temple belongs to the esoteric Shingon sect of Buddhism and houses a number of historical Buddha statues that are only shown to the public on special occasions. There is also a stunning Japanese garden inside the temple grounds. Because the natural scenery around the temple changes with the seasons, it is worth revisiting during a different time of the year if you have a chance.
