Mt. Iwaki
Mt. Iwaki is a volcanic, three-peaked mountain in Aomori, and it is known for having the highest peak in the prefecture. In 1975, it was designated as the 50th Quasi-National Park in Japan. The mountain is popular with hikers, and it even has a network of roads and lifts that can be used to get past 1,470 meters of the 1,625-meter-high main peak. There are also two emergency huts that backpackers can use for overnight stays.
Mt. Iwaki is also home to a unique species of flower called michinoku-kozakura, also known as Iwaki-kozakura, which bloom around June and July each year. On clear days, hikers who reach the summit are rewarded with a view that stretches all the way to Aomori City.
