Daiosugi Tree
Daiosugi Tree is a Yakushima cedar that has stood on Yakushima Island for many years. Before Jomonsugi Tree was discovered in 1866, Daiosugi Tree was the largest known Yakushima cedar and the symbol of Yakushima Island. The tree stands on a steep slope, with a difference of 5.3 meters between the top and bottom edges of the base of the trunk. Looking up from below, visitors will be able to grasp the enormity of the tree. One unique characteristic of Daiosugi Tree is the crevice in the lower part of the tree, large enough for people to fit inside. At 24.7 meters tall and with a circumference of 11.1 meters, don't miss the chance to feel the magnitude of this tree while visiting the island.
