Archaeological Museum Kojindani
The Archaeological Museum Kojindani is adjacent to the Kojidani archaeological site in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture. A piece of earthenware from the Kofun period was discovered on a footpath through a rice paddy, which led to the excavation of the area that is now known as the Kojindani archaeological site. The site received its name from the sanbo kojin, or guardian deity of Buddha, that was enshrined on the south side, and since investigative excavation began, a number of bronze swords have also been uncovered. At the museum, visitors can learn about the history and culture of the Kojidani archaeological site and Izumo City through displays and exhibits of excavated national treasures. In addition, a variety of specialties such as kodaimai rice, lotus picked from the Kojidani Ruins Park, bronze ware goods, and precious historical documents are available at the museum shop. Lotus tea, kodaimai rice, or original senbei rice crackers are sure to make great souvenirs of the trip.
