Yakumo lacquerware is a traditional craft product, the technique of which has been passed down through over 150 years in the castle city of Matsue. Each piece is finished with the unique technique of drawing a pattern on the painted base using various colored lacquer and Aogai – gold and silver powder, then applying natural transparent lacquer, and polishing. What makes Yakumo lacquerware unique compared to other lacquerware made in Japan is that as years go by, the patterns become more vivid. There are many products available, including vases, trays, bowls, and mirrors.
