Yanai Shirakabe Street is a stretch of road about 200 meters long in Yanai City. Both sides of the street are lined with traditional merchant homes that date all the way back to the Edo period, and in 1984 the street was chosen as an Important Traditional Building Preservation Area. Every summer, the area hosts the Goldfish Lantern Festival, during which the streets are decorated with over 200 goldfish-shaped lanterns. Both during the festival and otherwise, Yanai Shirakabe Street is a great place to take a leisurely stroll while enjoying the retro landscape.
