Yakusugi Land
Yakusugi Land is a vast natural recreation forest designated as a preservation district of the forestry ecosystem conservation area on Yakushima Island. As the name Yakusugi Land suggests, the forest is home to various kinds of yakusugi (yakushima cedar) trees, including the Buddha cedar which is said to be 1,800 years old. The clear brook that runs through the forest as well as the forest itself are covered with moss, creating a fantastic scenery unique to the island. There are four different hiking trails to choose from, from a 30-minute leisurely walk to a 150-minute nature-filled course, so visitors can choose the one best suited to them.
