Wilson's Stump
Wilson's Stump is a Yakushima cedar stump and famous photo spot. It is said to be named so because it was introduced to the world by an American botanist called Dr. Wilson. The old stump has a hollow in the middle that is 16 square meters, large enough for several dozen people to fit inside. The sky that can be seen when looking up from inside the stump takes the shape of a heart, making it a popular spot for photos. If you have the chance, take a visit and feel the mysterious natural scenery.
*Transportation: from March 1 through November 30, vehicle access to the Arakawa Trail Entrance is restricted. Those who wish to climb the mountain should take the Arakawa Mountain Bus that departs from the Yakusugi Museum, a taxi, or a chartered bus.
