Tennoji Temple (Tokyo)
Art & Architecture
History
Although Tennoji is located in the heart of Tokyo, it is in a quiet place surrounded by greenery. The main feature of this mountain landscape is that the traditional temple architecture and modern architecture are in perfect harmony. In the Edo period(1603-1868), the “Fukutoji (currently known as a lottery)” was held here, and it was called Edo Mitomi, along with the Meguro Takisenji Temple of Yujin Tenjin, one of the three treasures of the Edo period.
