Shohinken, located in Yatsushiro in Kumamoto prefecture is a teahouse and garden area built in the first year of the Genroku period (1688-1704) by Naoyuki Matsui, lord of Yatsushiro Castle. The garden, spreading over 9000 square meters (96875 square feet), is a vast and highly regarded scenic spot, with many different flowers and trees, as well as carefully arranged stones in the pond to add to the overall aesthetically pleasing atmosphere of this Japanese garden.
