Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum
The Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum is a food theme park that focuses on Japanese ramen shops that are well known throughout the country. Featuring a number of individual shops, including those with vegetarian menus, visitors can taste and compare the ramen prepared in various ways with different ingredients. In addition to eating, there is plenty to see and do, with museum shops, candy stores, coffee and snack bars, and more. The museum itself houses a fun retro atmosphere, decorated to resemble old-fashioned streetscapes where the earliest ramen shops were founded. Visitors can also learn about the rich history of ramen at this establishment, so noodle enthusiasts should make sure not to miss out.

A truly magical place for ramen lovers, I had the most wonderful time at the museum. Upon entering, one doesn't expect much as the appearance was the typical history-on-the-wall-with-exhibitions-displayed layout, a souvenir shop at the rear, with a cute ojii-san (grandfather) and his traditional ramen cart and a map of Japan with ramen specialties of the different regions. It was fascinating to learn about the history of ramen and the significance of umami to this Japanese dish. However, the real jaw-dropping moment came when I descended the stairs into a different world lined with the widest array of ramen restaurants I've ever seen. The atmosphere reminded me of Odaiba's Oedo-onsen-monogatari's, though less crowded as I had gone around 8pm. I tried Rishiri Ramen Miraku, arguably the most difficult ramen dish to obtain and the Tori Paitan (white chicken soup) at Ryu's Noodle Bar with smoked maple butter. Both dishes were at affordable prices, leaving me awe-struck with how good it tasted. A must-visit when you make your trip to Yokohama.
