The Shibaseki Onsen in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture is a natural hot spring that is said to have great effects on health. It is reported that in 895, the Daigo Emperor and later in 1044 the Go-Reizei Emperor both visited the Shibaseki Onsen to treat their diseases. The onsen has two regular baths with different temperatures, a hot steam basin, an open air bath and a private family bath.
