The Open-air Museum of Old Japanese Farmhouses is the first ever open-air museum to be opened in Japan in 1956. This museum is a collection of different old Japanese farmhouses that were built during the Edo Period (17th-19th century) from different regions all over Japan, ranging from Iwate in the Tohoku region, right down to the Okinawan islands. With each farmhouse unique to the culture, climate, and customs of each region and prefecture it was built in, you can appreciate the architecture and ways of life that farmers would have led back in the day.
