Okotanpeko Lake
Okotanpeko Lake is a small dammed lake with a circumference of four kilometers. This lake along with Ashoro-cho's Onneto and Kamishihoro-cho's Shinonomeko Lake are called Hokkaido's Three Great Secret Lakes. Depending on the time and angle, the vista looks as if it changes from green to blue, making it a popular spot for those who enjoy leisure driving tours around Hokkaido. About one hour from Sapporo City by car, accessing this "urban" secret lake is relatively easy.
*Okotanpeko Lake is designated as a specially preserved district of Shikotsu-Toya National Park, so visitors cannot enter the area directly.
*Route 78 that leads to Okotanpeko Lake is currently closed. National Highway 453 can be used to access the lake instead.
