Nishikigoi Village (Nishikigoi no Sato)
Ojiya City, Niigata prefecture is the home of the swimming jewels that are Nishikigoi (a vari-colored type of carp). Nishikigoi Village is the only exhibition facility in the world where you can see lots of Nishikigoi carp and that also introduces the history of the village. Nishikigoi carp is the generic name for carp that have spots and patches of different colors to them, and are bred for ornamental purposes. They, therefore, differ in name to normal carp which are for eating.
On the premises, you can find a garden with a pond and bridge that has Nishikigoi carp swimming in it, along with waterfalls of varying sizes. Nishikigoi Village also has an exhibition hall that has all kinds of documents about how to raise Nishikigoi carp, their history and what types there are. There is also a special ornamental pond in a hall that has the most prestigious and rare Nishikigoi swimming around in it. You can go and see and even feed the 200 Nishikigoi carp that span 15 different prestigious types!
