Nishiki Market
With an incredible 1300 plus years of history dating back to the Heian Period as as a place for fresh fish provided to the Kyoto Imperial Palace, Nishiki Market is a locals favorite, but also a popular spot for tourists too. Nowadays, known as "Kyoto's Kitchen" with a 400 year history as an official market, expect to find a wide range of Kyoto cuisine goodies, with not only fresh fish based cuisine but also many types of mochi, pickled vegetables, Japanese crackers, fresh tofu and Japanese sweets, just to name a few!
