Mt. Yoshino
Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mt. Yoshino of Nara Prefecture is one of Japan’s most famous locations for cherry blossom viewing. There are currently around 30,000 cherry trees on the mountain, and it is said that the first cherry trees were planted there in the 7th century. The mountain itself has a gradual northward slope, so visitors can take their time to enjoy the cherry blossoms while hiking up the mountain.
Those planning a trip to Mt. Yoshino to see the cherry blossoms, however, should note that the timing and duration of the blooming period can change significantly from year to year depending on the local weather conditions. There will also likely be crowds during the cherry blossom season, so it’s a good idea to plan ahead and allow plenty of extra time.
