Mt. Kusatsu Shirane is an active volcano in the Kusatsu region known for its three crater lakes, the largest one a brilliant shade of blue-green. The mountain is one of the most famous in the region, and it is a popular hiking spot and a great place to see a variety of alpine plants. Please note, though, that entry to the mountain is sometimes restricted due to volcanic activity.
