Misaki Koen Park (Akita)
Spreading out over Mt. Misaki, which lies on the border of Akita and Yamagata prefectures, is Misaki Koen Park. Misaki, literally "three peninsulas," got its name from the three peninsulas that protrude into the Sea of Japan: Fudozaki, Daishizaki, and Kannonzaki.
One of the highlights of Misaki Koen Park is the clusters of strangely shaped rocks sharpened by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan. As it's on the coast, there is also a viewing spot where you can gaze out at Tobishima Island or the sun sinking over the sea. We recommend a late afternoon stroll so you can plan your visit in time to see the sunset.
In spring, the park has the earliest blooming cherry blossoms in the prefecture. The corridor of cherry trees that extends along National Route 7 is a beautiful sight for anyone taking an afternoon drive.
Outfitted with recreational trails and campsites, you're sure to thoroughly enjoy the nature, history, and leisure activities of the park.
