Meganebashi Bridge
Art & Architecture
Free Admission
The Meganebashi Bridge in Nagasaki is famous as the first arched stone bridge in Japan. It was built in 1634 by a monk from Kofukuji temple. The name meganebashi or 'spectacles bridge' derives from the shape of the bridge and its reflection in the water which resembles glasses. A nice photo spot and interesting piece of local history, the bridge are actually counted as one of the three major historical bridges in Japan, alongside the Nihonbashi bridge in Tokyo and the Kintaikyo bridge in Iwakuni.
