豪徳寺
東京・世田谷区にある豪徳寺は、近江彦根藩（滋賀県）の藩主・井伊家の菩提寺（先祖代々のお墓がある寺）です。招き猫の発祥の地と言われており、仏殿の横にある招福殿には1,000体を超える招き猫がずらりと並んでいます。
豪徳寺には、井伊家にまつわる以下の言い伝えが残されています。
""江戸時代初期、井伊直孝が寺の前を通りかかると、門の前で手招きをする一匹の白猫がいました。直孝が寺の中に入るとたちまち雷雨となり、直孝は猫のおかげで濡れずに済みました。そこで直孝が住職の法話を聞いたため、豪徳寺は井伊家の菩提寺となりました。""
境内には国指定史跡である井伊家墓所や、仏殿、梵鐘などの井伊家ゆかりの文化遺産が残されています。

I really wanted to visit this temple due to the abundance of cat statues and this did not disappoint! The temple is quite far out from the center of Tokyo however it is definitely worth the visit. This is such a unique temple experience in Japan and great for photos. Not only does the temple feature the cat statues but it also is quite aesthetic itself as its surrounded by gardens. An unmissable spot!
