Genbikei Gorge
Genbikei Gorge of Iwate prefecture is a scenic rocky gorge. Travelers should note that Genbikei Gorge in Iwate is a different location from Geibikei Gorge, also in Iwate, which has boat trips. Around 2 kilometers long from one end of the walk to the other, Genbikei Gorge will certainly provide visitors with an entertaining trip through nature. However, it becomes especially distinct and enjoyable due to its "flying dango". Near the begining of the gorge's path, you will see a rope and basket. By placing 400 JPY in the basket and ringing the nearby gong, a local treat, dango (sticky rice balls covered in sauce), will be "flown" to you via the rope basket. A fun way to order food and a great way to grab a snack while on a hike, Genbikei Gorge is fun for the whole family.
