Fukuroda Falls
Counted as one of Japan’s Three Famous Waterfalls, Fukuroda Falls is located in Daigo-cho, Ibaraki Prefecture, and it is a popular destination for both tourists and locals. Though described as one “waterfall,” Fukuroda Falls actually has four rock cliffs the water flows over, which has led it to be nicknamed “Yodo-no-taki,” which literally means “four-times waterfall.”
The view of the falls is particularly beautiful in summer and autumn when the surroundings are covered in lush greenery and colorful foliage, respectively, but winter is also a popular time to visit. In winter, the falls actually freeze over to create walls of ice, and some visitors seeking an adrenaline rush will even climb up the frozen waterfall with ice picks.
