Daishoin Temple is a historical Zen Buddhist temple in Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It was founded in the early Tokugawa period (1600-1867) and served as a family temple of the Mori clan that governed this area. The burial site located behind the temple hosts a great number of the clan's graves. The path to the graveyard is lined with lanterns and creates a mysterious atmosphere. There is also a garden and some beautiful Zen Buddhist architecture. Daishoin Temple is less known than Tokoji Temple which is the other famous temple in Hagi associated with the Mori clan, but it is certainly worth a visit for its historical interest and atmosphere.
