Ayamaru Misaki Cape
Ayamaru Misaki Cape is located in Kasari-cho in the northeastern part of Amami Oshima Island, and it has been chosen as one of the 100 famous views of Amami. The cape was given the name "ayamaru" for its shape, which is said to look as if temari balls (ball = maru) were weaved into an aya design. Kikaijima Island lies to the east, coral reefs surround the cape, and directly in front the Sotetsu Jungle spreads out, giving visitors a taste of the southern country. Along the Sotetsu Jungle walking trail, the remains of shell mounds that were used in the Jomon and Yayoi periods can still be seen. There is playground equipment and activities such as ground golf nearby as well, so kids can enjoy their time here too.
