Ashizuri Misaki Cape
Ashizuri Misaki Cape is in Tosashimizu City at the southernmost tip of Shikoku. There are observation decks in two places, from which visitors can feel the enormity of the world through the expanse of blue ocean spreading out before them. There is also a white lighthouse built as the landmark of the cape, and it has continued to guide ships coming and going on the Pacific Ocean since it was first lit in 1914. Camellia flowers bloom here each year around February, and the walking path around the cape becomes a virtual tunnel of abundant color. The west side of the cape is called Usubae, and it is the only place in the entire country where the Kuroshio Current comes directly in contact with the shore, allowing visitors to gaze out at the swirling whirlpools and flow of the current.
