Ashinoko Lake
The vast Ashinoko Lake is one of the most popular vacation resort destinations in Japan. On its own, it has one of the elusive good views of Mt. Fuji, but it also offers rides on sightseeing boats as well as gives you opportunities to ride ropeways. For the minimalist, you can also appreciate a calm walk around the lake. The lake area is an excellent place for history lovers as well, given that the Hakone checkpoint was built here to protect Edo (now Tokyo) about 500 years ago. Additionally, you can explore the 1,200-year-old Hakone Shrine. With a multitude of amusing ways to spend your time, there is something for all sorts of people around Ashinoko lake.
