Sumida Koen Park Cherry Blossom Festival takes place on the Taito-ku side of the Sumida River, which has been a famous spot for cherry blossoms since the Edo period. The area between the Azumabashi Bridge and Sakurabashi Bridge on the Sumida River is well-known for having a large number of cherry trees even for Japan. Here, visitors can admire the blossoms of around 510 of the Yoshino, Oshima, and Japanese varieties of cherry trees. Visitors can also enjoy the combined scenery of the blossoms along the Sumida River and Tokyo Skytree in the background. For an elegant hanami experience, take a ride on one of the houseboats or water buses of Sumida River and gaze at the line of cherry blossoms on each bank. At night, the interior of the park is illuminated, spreading a fairytale-esque atmosphere of night blossoms.
