Mitokusan Sanbutsuji Temple is located on Mt. Mitokusan, which has an elevation of about 900 meters. Its Nageiredo Hall, a National Treasure, is built on a sheer cliff; to reach it, one must climb a steep mountain path, parts of which are extremely narrow or require chains to use. Mt. Mitokusan is known as a place to purify the mind and body through worship and soothe the mind and body through hot-spring baths. This story, entitled "A Site for Purifying the Six Roots of Perception and Healing the Six Senses," is recognized as a Japan Heritage Site by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
